hidamaDOTnet || v.1 forest of planets
domain
I originally bought Hidama.net in mid-2007 and kept it until it expired the following year. I didn't have the information required to renew it so I unfortunately had to part with it. But after three and a half years (during which I had yasashii-ame.net), I found that it was available again and I bought it once more on December 27th, 2011 and officially re-opened in on January 1st, 2012.

the name
- [hidama] (n) falling star, fireball

I can't really remember how I came upon this word initially. It was the name of my blog long before I even decided to use it as a domain name the very first time I bought it. But I imagine I probably found it while I was looking up words in a Japanese dictionary and it just stuck. I have an undying love for/obsession with space, and falling stars have always fascinated me. Of course, they aren't actually stars but meteoroids, which is still equally as fascinating. The word "hidama" itself is also very beautiful to me and hidama.net is by far my favorite domain out of all that I've had and I intend to keep it for a good few years :D

Comments: I had a completely different idea in mind for the site's first layout, but I really liked the way my coming soon page turned out and decided to transform it into a full-blown layout. AND THIS BE IT. I'm not going to get too technical with how I did this and that, but editing the three images was really the easiest part. I just tossed them into this one giant clusterfuck texture that I made a while back and played around with blending modes until I got the result I wanted, and after that I just played around with them a bit, rotating and erasing and whatnot. It's a bit odd, I'll admit, with the way the pictures are laid out and the way the text is just sort of everywhere and, hell, even the pictures themselves deviate from the norm. But that's sort of what I was aiming for with this layout. I wanted to do something a bit out there and different, experiment a little with brush techniques and erasing and general styles. I've actually never done a right-aligned layout before so this is pretty new for me and it's nice to step out of my usual boundaries a bit. It took a while to code (especially with the image slicing/mapping portion sldjfa) but all the hours of hard work totally paid off and I'm really proud of it.
